Diane Marino
Just Groovin'
(M&M)

Nashville vocalist Diane Marino is well known for her flair and expertise on jazz and pre-rock standards, but her new CD spotlights her in a different musical arena, covering '60s classics.

Marino soars through "Baby I'm Yours," and "Yes I'm Ready," belts out "Anyone Who Had a Heart" and nicely teams with Felix Cavaliere for an updated version of the vintage Rascals hit "Groovin'."

Marino's instrumental partners include both fellow Music City greats, saxophonist Kirk Whalum ("So Much In Love," "Dedicated to the One I Love") and trumpeter Rod McGaha ("The Warmth of the Sun") and other veteran jazz soloists like Houston Person and Wycliffe Gordon.

Though Marino's doing older material, her treatments and approach are fresh and confident, making these performances both timeless and distinctive.
